Try this kids craft for all natural edible play-dough!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp. cooking oil
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1-2 drops of food coloring (optional)
Tools Needed:
- Large Sauce Pan (Non-Stick works the best!)
- Spatula or Wooden Spoon
- Wax paper or parchment paper
- Hard Surface (Cutting Board or Counter Top will do!)
Directions:
- Mix ingredients in saucepan.
- Turn on stove to a medium heat.
- Continue mixing over low-medium heat until a ball forms.
- Once the dough mixture begins to pull away from the sides of the pan, remove the dough.
- Allow the dough to cool a bit on a plate or cutting board lined with wax paper.
- While still warm, (but not HOT) knead play dough on a hard surface to remove any lumps.
- Add food coloring of choice. (optional)
- Knead until all color is mixed in.
- Play!
- Once you are finished, store in an air tight container.
This recipe will keep fresh for a few weeks, up to a few months depending on how often it is used, your climate and the container you keep it in.
Have fun playing and don't worry if little ones take a taste! While it is not intended for or recommended to allow children to eat a large quantity, this edible play-dough is non-toxic and food-safe!
