10 Autumn Leaf Crafts for Kids (Plus 10 Books!)

by Rebecca Eanes

Autumn is such a cozy season, and what better way to spend it than by sharing quality connection time reading books and doing crafts with our kids? I’ve compiled 10 autumn leaf crafts plus 10 books on leaves to help you cross craft time off your fall bucket list.

  1. These leaf luminaries from Kids’ Craftroom are so beautiful! They’re the perfect craft + decoration this fall, and the best part? No glue and no mess! You’ll need leaves, a plastic milk jug, contact paper, scissors, and no flame tea lights. Gather up your supplies!
  1. Is it really fall if you don’t make classic leaf people? Check out this tutorial at Fantastic Fun and Learning which also comes with two book recommendations: Leaf Man and Look What I Did with a Leaf. Read the books with your child before craft time!
  1. Create a beautiful preserved leaf mobile to hang in your child’s room. Find the instructions at Buggy and Buddy.
  1. Check out these leaf puppets from Messy Little Monster! This is a simple, fun activity for toddlers and preschoolers, although your big kids might enjoy it too! These can be made with craft sticks, a laminator, chalk pens (though I assume markers would work), and of course leaves!
  1. This paper plate hedgehog craft is happening at my house this weekend! My son adores hedgehogs. Easy Peasy and Fun has the tutorial here! Isn’t it the cutest thing?

  1. The Artful Parent shows us how to make stunning leaf garlands with our kids here. There are so many creative possibilities, and imagine how lovely it will look on your mantle or table.
  1. Your child can roll out, bake, and paint his or her very own leaf bowl. This craft is a bit more involved, but the outcome is a beautiful bowl that makes a great decoration, keepsake, or gift for the grandparents. Visit One Project Closer for the tutorial.
  1. This color changing tree craft from DLTK Crafts is such a neat idea! I love how the leaves change colors as you spin the plate. Great craft for kids of all ages!

  2. Your kids can now save all of those collected autumn leaves in their very own fall leaf book. Find the needed supplies and instructions here at All Kids Network. It’s a wonderful way to preserve the memories of that fun family nature walk, to teach your preschooler the science of changing leaves, and to watch your creative child at work.
  1.  These autumn leaf sun catchers are so pretty. Once again, The Artful Parent gives you an amazing yet simple craft that your kids will love. These would look beautiful hanging in the window or from a covered porch!
