There are two types of parents in the world.
There are the ones who feel that extracurricular activities are unnecessary, and that a child’s time in school is enough stimulation for one day. Then there are the parents who relish in the idea of extracurricular activities, for the different perspective it offers children, after a long day of routine and predictability in the classroom.
I fall into the latter group.
If you fall into the first group, that’s fine – I totally understand where you’re coming from. However, there are few things to consider before completely eliminating the idea of enrolling your child in any extracurricular activities.
According to Kumon, one of the nation’s largest academic preparedness centers, “It’s no surprise that after-school programs can do much more than keep your children occupied during the afternoon. In fact, after-school activities can help them in a variety of ways.”
