Spring break is upon us and while some families will get to spend the time off in a warmer climate or a beach vacation, some find themselves at home wondering what to do with the kids for a week with no school. Here are five fun ideas to beat spring break boredom, regardless of the weather in your hometown.
Have a bake off
When you have some free time with the kids, it’s always fun to enjoy some cooking or baking. Get creative and do a cupcake decorating contest or a cooking competition that models your favorite reality show. If your kids aren’t old enough for that, keep things simple and bake some sweet treats like brownies or cookies together. This might also be a great time to teach your child a traditional family recipe that has been passed down through generations.
Play outside
Go outside and play. Enjoy riding bikes, playing in the yard, taking a trip to the park, going for a walk or a nature hike. Even if the temps are a little cooler or wet where you live, a few minutes to run around outside can get the wiggles out and everyone, even your reluctant ones, will feel better with some fresh air and exercise.
Have a movie marathon
Give your kids permission to enjoy some extra screen time and have a movie marathon. Pick a theme like Disney movies, a trilogy, funny movies, or just let each family member pick a favorite. Pop some popcorn, curl up on the couch, and enjoy. You may also consider reading a book that was turned into a movie in the weeks leading up to spring break so you can enjoy the movie together after you have finished reading the book.
Dig out rarely used toys
Spring break is a great time to get out toys that you do not use on a regular basis. Get out blocks or Legos and build something. Work on a large puzzle together or set out the art supplies or playdough for an afternoon of fun., Board games are also a great way to pass the hours while making fun memories. Never forget that hours that can be wiped away by building a fort in the living room
